Tender Thoughts about Karen

Karen Hewlett is a registered massage therapist who graduated from The Sutherland and Chan School of Massage Therapy in 1995. She works with a holistic approach, believing in treating an individual body, mind and soul.

She has specialized training in emotional release work with the Kristie Magraw Method and is a Spiritual Healer working with Rosemary Altea. She is also a NISA (neuromuscular integrative structural alignment) therapist, specializing in myofascial release work. She has been working with the "The Sports Medicine Specialist Clinic" since 1995, treating many varying types of ailments, but also works offsite with clients catering to individual’s needs and wants.

Karen is specialized in massage and cancer, massage and PTSD, hospice care, and is a certified paediatric massage therapist (CPMT), as well as a certified infant massage teacher (CIMT). She has volunteered at the SickKids Hospital since 2003 with Oncology/Haematology.

Prior to massage therapy Karen was a member of the Ontario field hockey and Canadian field hockey team (World Cup Medalist) and in 1984 represented Canada at The Olympic Games in Los Angeles. She played field hockey at an elite level for about 20 years, was a captain, manager and mentored younger athletes as they came up through the ranks.

Karen is passionate about everything she does, but feels that massage therapy is her true vocation in life. In addition to treating individual patients she also teaches “massage technique” classes. Her classes focus on helping parents and caregivers to administer massage to their loved ones.

Whether treating an infant, child, someone who is elderly and palliative, or simply giving a massage to an individual who just wants to relax and take care of a few aches and pains, Karen approaches each treatment (or class she teaches) with a warm, gentle, calming manner…and always a tender touch.
