What is a Massage

Touch and massage can be traced back thousands of years...

Massage is one of the oldest forms of physical medicine traced back as far as 400BC. Chinese Medicine goes back to 1800BC along with Indian Ayurvedic Medicine. Greek Physician Hippocrates (born in fifth century BC) wrote, "rubbing can bind a joint that is too loose and loosen a joint that is too rigid....hard rubbing binds, much rubbing causes parts to waste and moderate rubbing makes them grow".

Many cultures around the world have a long history of practicing massage for babies as an art that is passed down from generation to generation.

Massage and touch therapies have been increasingly practiced on children and babies. Researcher Dr. Tiffany Field at The Touch Research Institute at The University of Miami School of Medicine is most well known because of her great work to show scientific based studies with children and infants confirming the need for touch, linking touch very directly to healthy physical development. Her finding show that people of all ages receive benefits of reduced stress with the release of serotonin and oxytocins, and reduced cortisone levels in the body.
